Vlad Milan Duchev has a deep passion for painting and film photography. The landscapes hold a special place in his heart. Both his painting and photography processes follow a simple rule - he only begins when he can envision the entire painting or photograph, from start to finish. He first paints it in his mind and then transfers it to the canvas or film.
Vlad was born in 1965 in the small town of Pokrov (formerly Ordzhonikidze) in Ukraine. Growing up, he was impressed by the art of Russian-Ukrainian impressionists. At the age of 8, he entered an art school in the small town of Bila-Tserkov and started his journey as an artist to join the Art Academy of Ukraine. At the age of 14, being under pressure from his musical family, he decided to take a musical path. He studied at the Music College of Zhytomyr, the Music Academy of Kharkiv, and the National Conservatory of Ukraine in Kyiv with the principal in classical performance - double bass. But at the same time, he continued studying painting. In 1994, he moved his family to the United States due to the unstable situation in Ukraine. He resides and works in Baltimore, MD.
What is the RAA&M National 2024 Show?
RAA&M National 2024 is an invitational for artists across the United States to exhibit artwork crafted in a wide and diverse number of media (painting, drawing, mixed media, collage, photography, digital art, original printmaking, and sculpture) at the prestigious Rockport Art Association & Museum. It is a unique opportunity to engage in true cultural exchange: introducing new artistic influences from beyond the Cape Ann region to local artists and the public alike while simultaneously presenting the talents of our native Cape Ann artists to the nation at large.
The submitted artworks are selected through a rigorous digital jurying process, with winning pieces being juried in person and awarded monetary prizes ranging from $250 to $5,000. Many regionally – and nationally – recognized artists participate in this show year after year in what has become the crown jewel in the Cape Ann art scene’s yearly calendar of events!
