Museum Collection
The Rockport Art Association & Museum Collection represents over a century of historic Cape Ann art. With works by our founders, including Aldro T. Hibbard, Anthony Thieme, William Lester Stevens, and Antonio Cirino; by influential early artist members like Theresa Bernstein, Emile Gruppé, Marguerite S. Pearson, and Marian Parkhurst Sloane; and by world-renowned artists who painted on Cape Ann, such as Childe Hassam, Eric Hudson, Leon Kroll, Frederick Mulhaupt, and Agnes Richmond, the Collection comprises a treasure we are honored to steward and share. Visitors can view rotating exhibitions from the Collection in the Stow Wengenroth Gallery all season long.
The Rockport Art Association & Museum Collection also maintains a vast archive of historical items such as Member Artists' sketchbooks, diaries, articles, correspondence, photos, and other ephemera. These archives are available to the public for educational purposes.
We seek to preserve, promote, and enhance our Museum Collection through careful curation and attention to our mission, values, and vision going forward. Our Curator and Museum Committee meet regularly to discuss restoration needs, identify gaps in the Collection, and design exhibits offering our visitors enjoyable, meaningful experiences. We are grateful for donations to the Museum Fund, which help us restore, acquire, and show these beautiful works.
