Law Hamilton is often found behind the lens capturing unique perspectives of the natural world. She turned her lens to the ocean, and embarked on a photographic journey of stalking the waves: tromping to the beach in stormy weather and blizzards, capturing the sunset as a storm clears out, finding the dark water in low light, and seeing the internal reflection of a wave, all the while the sentinel Twin Lights of Thacher Island keep watch.

Her series include:
Intimate Waves explores waves as portraits of the changing moods of the Atlantic in small panoramic prints.
Atlantic Waves: Grace and Movement pairs long exposures showing the long, soft, blurred movement of water turned frothy white with motion frozen at high shutter speeds.
Abstract Waves showcases the many ways long exposure photography can be abstracted based on natural experiences of the environment. Intentionally showing these images without a frame of reference continues to expand her definition of abstraction.
Neptune series features stormfronts with large waves, spindrift and all the power of the raging Atlantic.
Musicians in Marciac explores Jazz performances through her eyes using both black-and-white film and color digital.

Digital photography (camera, digital darkroom, and inkjet prints) bridges the gap for her between traditional photography (camera, film, and darkroom) and other art mediums, creating stimulating new images while continuing to use the traditional concepts of color, form, and composition.

Her work has been exhibited and received awards in juried national and regional shows. She has been accepted as a Master Artist at the Fine Art of Photography, Plymouth Guild and Newburyport Art Association.

She is an exhibiting member at Marblehead Art Association, Newburyport Art Association, and Rockport Art Association and Museum. She served on the RAA&M Board of Directors representing the Photography Division 2006-2014.

Hamilton has studied photography at the Griffin Museum of Photography, and continues her education via workshops, seminars, and other collaborative endeavors. She enjoys sharing her passion with new and emerging photographers.

“It is an illusion that photos are made with the camera…they are made with the eye, heart, and head.” ~Henri Cartier-Bresson
