My paintings are rooted in an understanding of light in nature. I especially love the early morning and late day light and the colors that are created in those fleeting moments. I have painted plein air since college and have a working knowledge of how light falls on the landscape, how the atmosphere changes the light, and how the angle of light bends the color as the day progresses. I rise early to observe the morning light at the beach where I can get a full view of the sky and often set out in the hour before sunset to witness again the light and color as the sun leaves the sky. I combine my plein air experience with many digital images to try to capture the fleeting nature of the beauty, often chooses large scale canvases for more impact. My objective in painting is to share the thrill that I experience with those who see my work.
